Yesterday we had a not so proud moment in the Brown household. Caiden had some cars in his backpack when I picked him up from school. He told me they were his and I really had no idea since he packs his backpack with anything and everything, so we left with them. Well as we were on the way to pick up "baby" as Caiden calls Ethan, I noticed that the Lightning McQueen car had eyes like I have never seen before. {I know some of you think I never pay attention to details but I did know that one!} So as I take a closer look at the cars Caiden claims are his, I realize that he took them from school.
{the stolen goods}
From there I continue to interrogate my 3 year old, which by the way if you have never done is like spinning circles for long periods of time! FINALLY I got out of him {with a lot of crying involved} that he took them from school because he did not have cars like these at home. Now let me remind you people that my sons DO NOT I repeat DO NOT lack in the toy cars department! I took the cars and then had a teaching/learning moment with my thief of a son. I explained to him that he lied and then what that meant and what the truth was. Try explaining all of that to a 3 years old and use words that he would get explaining these "new" terms. UGH! I also explained that he stole and what that was. I pulled the whole mom card and told him what he was going to do tomorrow and that if he didn't I was going to call the police and they would take him to jail. This immediately made him cry and he said "No mommy I told the truth now and I don't want to go to jail!" {don't start feeling sorry for him now!} I also told him that he was going to have to tell his Uncle Jeff and his daddy what he did...more crying and pleading involved!
Uncle Jeff came over for dinner {Katrina was out of town for business} and he told him what he had done. Jeff reinforced what I said and really put the male influence into it! Then later that night he had to tell his daddy and that was tough to get out of him! He really really really did not want to tell daddy what he had done. But he finally did and also told hid daddy what he was going to do to correct it tomorrow!
So today as we are driving to school I asked Caiden "What are you going to do today when we get to school today?" He repeated what I told him in his random 3 year old order, but I knew he got the jift. So as we come walking up to the door he took the teacher the cars and apologized for taking them home and then he apologized to his other teacher for lying to her. Both of them had a conversation to reinforce mommy and then they forgave him.
The not so proud moment quickly turned into a proud moment! My son did the right thing in the end! I was so proud that he took responsibility {as much as a 3 year old can} for what he had done!
